July saw our 14m Air Beam dome head up to Whitley Bay for a 4 week hire.  We were delighted to have been asked to supply the structure for the Under the Dome festival which ran through to the middle of August, bringing music, dance and crafts to the seaside town.

The annual ‘Under the Dome’ festival was in its third year when they got in touch with us with a small complication… The famous white, Spanish City dome, usually used to house events, was undergoing renovations so the festival was in need of a replacement!  The council was keen to continue using a dome shaped structure, in keeping with the original building.  The dome also needed to be big enough to accommodate events, workshops and entertainment, as well as an audience.  Being located on the sea front, the structure had to be robust and resistant to wind, rain and the elements.  We all know that British Summers are not to be relied upon for sunshine!

Luckily our 14m dome structure fit the bill! All of our air buildings have in-built Sealed Air Beam’s providing extra strength and support, as well as a whopping 55mph wind rating – that’s a massive 20mph higher than the industry standard of 35mph! Our domes, complete with glass and aluminium doors are fully waterproof and with the intelligent air design, they keep the temperature stable inside, in this case, warm, but with air con they can be cooled down in hotter climates too!

The 4 week hire has been a great success, attracting many visitors from surrounding areas and providing a unique and interesting venue for the Under the Dome Festival.  Mayor Norma Redfearn added “This inflatable dome is a brilliant addition to the fantastic performance space we have at the Spanish City Plaza, and will enable people to enjoy the entertainment, whatever the weather.

“This festival is a wonderful opportunity to support and enjoy our local talent as well as working with professional people.”

We’re glad to have been a part of this year’s festivities and enjoyed partaking in a great community event.
